Eating Disorders
& Mental Health
The battle in your mind may feel constant, exhausting, isolating, and unseen. I’ve walked it, and I know how heavy it can be.
But even here, in the middle of it all, God is still at work. There is hope. There is healing. There is a way forward.
This space is here to help you fight — with truth, with practical tools, and with the reminder that you don’t have to do this alone
To The One Fighting With Their Mind,
If you’ve ever walked through life with an internal battle raging inside - showing up for others while quietly struggling- I want you to know:
I understand.
From anxiety to eating disorders to perinatal and postpartum mental health struggles, there are few seasons of my life untouched by this fight. It can feel lonely and discouraging. But I've learned that when placed in the hands of God, who can bring beauty from brokenness and purpose from pain, life can still be beautiful and good - even in the midst of suffering.
I have also learned that true healing requires surrender and intention - choosing, day by day, to quiet the noise and anchor yourself in truth. It is not a choice others can make for you; it has to be your own.
That is the heart behind this page: to offer you hope in the middle of whatever you're facing. Here you'll find encouragement, practical tools, and gentle reminders of the truth.
Most of all, you’ll find this quiet, steady reminder:
You are not weak.
You are not dramatic.
You are not alone.
If you are in the thick of it right now, I am so glad you’re here. Let’s keep choosing freedom together.
With You in the Messy Middle,
Alissa

Foundations For Recovery
1
Seek Professional Support
Build a care team that understands both the physical and mental sides of recovery.
-
Doctors: Monitor physical health and support the body as it heals.
-
Psychologists/Psychiatrist: Help address thought patterns, provide coping tools, and offer mental support.
-
Dietitian: Guide nutrition, create a personalized plan, and help navigate food - related fears.
2
Limit Exposure to Numbers
No Calories, weight, and labels can fuel obsessive thoughts - creating space from them helps quiet the noise.
-
Remove or avoid scales
-
Cover or ignore nutrition labels
-
Keep movement consistent, not tied to food
-
Ask for blind weights at appointments
3
Find a Good Accountability Partner
Choose someone who is gracious, patient, and honest - someone who will support you, speak truth when it's hard, and walk with you through every season of recovery.
4
Give Yourself GRACE, & Lots of It
Recovery isn't linear. There will be hard days, setbacks, and moments you feel overwhelmed - and that's okay. What matters is this: give yourself grace, get back up, and keep going.
5
Make a List of Reasons to Recover
There will be days when the disorder tries to convince you to go back - when recovery feels harder than staying stuck. On those days, come back to your "why." Let it remind you that recovery is worth the fight.
6
Celebrate The "Tiniest" of Victories
When you are in a life-or-death fight, no victory is tiny. Every choice that goes against the disorder is a step toward freedom. Celebrate it - you are choosing life one decision at a time.
7
Try One Challenge Food Daily
Each food you face is a step toward freedom. Avoidance gives the disorder space to hide - but courage brings healing into the light. SO THIS IS YOUR PERMISSION TO DISOBEY YOUR ED!
8
Follow Your Meal Plan
A meal plan provides structure, reduces decision fatigue, and helps rebuild a healthy relationship with food. Trust the guidance of a dietitian and let it support your body as you heal.

My Story With ED
Six years ago, as a senior in high school, I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. For a long time, I moved through treatments and support without fully wanting to let go of the disorder. Eventually, I hit a breaking point — the thing that once felt like control had taken both my control and identity.
So I chose recovery.
It wasn’t easy, but with support, I began fighting back — even when I felt stuck between sick and well. And slowly I improved, but everything began to shift when I returned to my relationship with God. As I rooted myself in His truth and who He says I am, I was slowly redefined.
Now, my heart is to help others not only understand eating disorders but to walk through recovery with faith, support, and honesty. True healing involves the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.
And more than anything, I’ve found this to be true: an identity rooted in God changes everything.

During recovery, the eating disorder voice can get loud — but it speaks lies, not truth.
So we fight back by replacing the noise. Fill your mind with truth, encouragement, and reminders of who you really are.
Put your headphones in, turn it up — and let truth be louder than the lies.
